What is a Scholarship?
A scholarship is a type of financial aid to help students pay for their higher education – whether it’s a university, college, or technical school. While some scholarships can be a large sum of money over a certain number of years, others can be a small, one-time payment. There are several different types of scholarships a student can receive:

How Do I Find Scholarships?
The best way to find scholarships is to talk to your school counselor or the financial aid office where you wish to attend. Another great place to find scholarships is within your community – whether it’s your place of worship, local clubs, non-profit organizations, or even local businesses. Lastly, you can easily search for fun and unique scholarships online, whether it’s a scholarship for being tall, red-headed, or even scholarships for those who are left-handed. A few clicks around could open tons of opportunities for you!
Be Watchful of Scholarship Scams
While searching for scholarships, it’s important to be aware of potential scams. Scammers and fraudsters love nothing more than to take advantage of you. If a scholarship seems too good to be true or says that the money is “guaranteed,” don’t fall for it! If the scholarship asks for you to pay any fee or provide your Social Security number, do not apply for it! Lastly, be watchful of what organization is offering the scholarship. Is it a credible organization? If the organization or the scholarship makes you feel uneasy and hesitant, it’s probably for a good reason.
