Did you recently get engaged? Congrats! Time to start wedding planning!

The journey to saying "I do" can be an expensive one. From the venue to the vendors and everything in between, it's no wonder why so many couples stress out when planning their wedding. But, worry not! Here are eight ways to save on wedding planning.

Buy used

A great way to save money is to buy used items from consignment shops, online marketplaces, and past brides. Most times, wedding-related items have had very little use. You can score great deals on "Like new" items, whether it's decorations or even a wedding dress!

Embrace minimalism

As the saying goes, "Less is more." By filling your event space with lots of items and décor, you not only create more set up and tear down work for yourself, but it can make your wedding look overdone and messy. Embrace being minimal and fill the space with simple but beautiful decorations and flowers that will fill the space while also keeping your wallet full.

Consider another day of the week

Many venues offer discounted rates for those getting married on a nontraditional day. By not having a traditional Saturday wedding, you could save tons of cash while also holding a celebration that's sure to be remembered.

Downsize your wedding cake

While a beautiful, multi-tiered wedding cake will be sure to have a wow factor, the price will also make you say, "WOW!" So, celebrate with a small wedding cake for just the two of you to enjoy. Then, pass out a different dessert to your guests. Cupcakes or donuts are a sweet treat for your guests to enjoy while saving you lots of money!

Host your entire celebration at one venue

Instead of paying a fee at one venue to host your ceremony and then another fee to host your reception, try finding a venue that will host both. This way, your guests don't have to travel to another site for your reception, and you can enjoy great savings by keeping all events of your special day in one place.

Better yet, try a nontraditional wedding venue

Try hosting your wedding at a nontraditional venue such as a park, a vacation rental property, or a library! Since these nontraditional venues aren't known for hosting events like weddings, they may offer much better pricing than a normal wedding venue.

Go digital for wedding invitations (or print them yourself)

You may be shocked at how costly invitations are when ordering. For everything from the quality of paper to the design you choose, the cost of invitations can certainly climb. So, try going digital with invitations and any of your other paper needs for your special day. By providing your guests with a link to an online wedding website with all of your wedding details, you can avoid your guests losing the invitation, and you can keep all the important information for your wedding in one central place.

Get creative with wedding favors

Send your guests home with a small token of appreciation by giving them a fun wedding favor that they can use. Tell your guests, "Thank you for coming!" by sending them home with a small candle, a coffee mug, or snacks! Better yet, support a small and local business instead, and you could save tons of cash!

The process of planning your wedding day can be stressful and costly. With these tips, we hope you head into your lives together with wedded bliss!
