Be Mindful of Where the QR Code is Coming From
Never scan a QR Code if it comes from an unknown or untrustworthy source. Are you at a local restaurant and presented with a QR Code to access the menu? Go for it! Did you find a random flyer on the street that urges you to scan a QR Code to win a free iPhone? Don’t fall for it!
Look for a Preview of the QR Code’s Destination
It’s important that you use a scanner app that shows a preview of where the QR Code is taking you. If you see the URL preview and do not trust it, don’t continue forward to the site.
Watch for What Happens When You Visit the Destination
As the saying goes, “You’re better safe than sorry.” So, beware if the QR code takes you to a website that’s unrelated to what you scanned or requires personal information from you to enter the site. Close out of the browser right away!
